So your wedding is over, and everything went smoothly!  So, how could the honeymoon go wrong? Surprisingly enough, there are lots of things that can happen to sour the sweetest of honeymoons.   Have you chosen the best honeymonon getaways or honeymoon suites? Whether you’re having your honeymoon in Puerto Rico or your honeymoon in Bali, you can be assured you’ll have a great experience by keeping just a few things in mind.

Destinations for Honeymoon Getaways

First of all, spending some time planning.  Decide ahead of time a general itinerary and a trip budget, so that you have an idea ahead of time the nature of your trip.  Certainly, both folks will want to see certain sights, and have different interests to pursue.  Avoid conflict and stress by making sure everyone is on the same page on honeymoon getaways.

If you can, try and space out the wedding and the honeymoon.  Now, this isn’t always possible due to work or family constraints.   If possible, though, take a little breather between events.  Wedding stress has the potential to be very tiring on the body, and then piling a lot of travel right after can take a serious toll.  Stress can affect your health and your mood, so don’t underestimate the advantage of starting a honeymoon rested.   If you are leaving right away, make the first day or two strictly rest and relaxation in the best honeymoon suite you can afford.   In other words, leave the hiking and spelunking to the end of the trip, and lounge on the beach at the beginning and relax in your honeymoon suite (hint, hint).

Stay healthy!  Drink plenty of water and eat wholesome foods.   Wedding stress takes its toll on the body, so refreshing with healthy options will reduce stress.   Refueling with vitamin-rich foods is important. If you’re drinking lots of alcohol on your honeymoon, accompany your fun drinks with plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

Don’t over-plan your honeymoon.   Trying to fit everything in is tempting, but not recommended unless you’re on an extended trip.   Agree ahead of time on the “can’t-miss” activities, and then choose wisely among the remaining options.   Whatever you do, don’t underestimate how tired you’ll be post-wedding.  The honeymoon is, first and foremost, a time for the couple to relax together.

Stay flexible.  While you’re out and about on your day trips, be spontaneous if you stumble on something interesting.  In an unfamiliar locale, you’re bound to find lots of fun surprises; don’t be slavishly devoted to your planned itinerary.

Finally, be patient with each other.   Once your wedding is over, a couple can suddenly feel overwhelmed with too much free time.  Patience is one of the key secrets to a successful marriage; use your honeymoon as a place to start exercising this trait.  Resist the temptation to let small annoyances turn into major disagreements.  Your goal is to have a stress-free honeymoon.  Remember, you’re on vacation and all that planning for the honeymoon getaways and choosing the best honeymoon suite was woth the effort! Something you will remember for the rest of your life.
